Electricity

Electricity is a secondary type of energy produced from imbalance of charge on atom(or radical) or flow of charge on conductor. Like magnet electricity also has two poles called positive and negative. Charge is a physical quantity by virtue of which electric energy is produced. Its unit is coloumb(C). one electron has charge of 1.6 x 10-19C. Electricity are mainly of two types

  1. Static Electricity: Static electricity is an imbalance of electric charges within or on the surface of a material. The charge remains until it is able to move away by means of an electric current or electrical discharge. In nature large amount of static electricity is produced in cloud and discharged as thunder. That’s why static electricity is taken as nuisance in daily life but has many advantages too.
  2. Current electricity: The electricity produced by flow of charged particles on conductor is called current electricity. Current electricity is obtained either from battery or dynamo. It is very much useful and can be converted to any other form of energy.

Current electricity is of two types. 1. A.C. & 2. D.C.

Direct current(D.C.)

Alternating Current(A.C.)

  1. DC has fixed polarities
  2. Direction of current is fixed
  3. Voltage cannot be changed using transformer
  4. Cannot be changed to A.C. easily
  5. D.C. is obtained from cell or battery

  1. Polarities are changeable
  2. Direction of current alters with polarity
  3. Voltage can easily changed with the help of transformer
  4. Easily changed to D.C. using rectifier
  5. A.C. is obtained from dynamo
