Small amount of electricity can be obtained from battery or dynamo but if large amount of electricity is required heavy generators should be operated by any form of mechanical energy either from fuel operated engine or naturally occurring forces like wind, water etc. If electricity is produces by the force of flowing water it is called hydroelectricity.
Advantages of hydroelectricity are
- It is clean source of energy as no fuel is used
- For long term it is cheaper than other power generations
- No pollution
- It is renewable resource
- Easy to transmit power from place to place
Drawbacks of hydroelectricity
- Very expensive to complete project than other power generation
- Possibility of landslide is created
- Many environmental factors are affected on completion of project
