Water pump is a popular machine to lift underground water especially in terai region. It consists of a barrel fitted with air tight piston associated with its handle. It has two valves one at ground surface and other attached with piston.
When piston is pushed down upper valve opens and lower valve is closed so that water enter above the piston. It is also called down stroke. When piston is moved up, upper valve is closed and lower valve is opened so that water is swept out from its trunk. It is also called Up Stroke.
